The Iraq War and the Media's Coverage of It

I've always thought the Iraq War was a major mistake, but after interviewing a Marine who spent time in Ramadi and al Anbar Province, in addition to talking with other soldiers who have served, I have to say I am more appalled by the media's coverage of the war. Most people know that major news networks tend to always focus on the bad, but the effect that has on a population's mentality is a monumental one.

Nevertheless, here is a link to the article I wrote after interviewing Lance Corporal Steven Hayes who was part of the March 2007 troop surge. It'd be nice to get a discussion going in regards to the media's coverage of the Iraq War and the war in general.

The al Anbar Awakening: A Marine's Eye View

On a side note, it would be greatly appreciated if you could vote for the article if you enjoy it or find it interesting.

This is why we talk in class about the power of the media in constructing our 'reality.' Short of being there ourselves to see for our own eyes, the best we have is the integrity of the journalist (and the media giants) that filter that journalist's message. At some point, I had set up a Reuters raw footage feed on my computer and as things were happening in Iraq, the unedited feed would provide a view (in the most literal sense) of events.
